About Sundarbans of West Bengal in India

  Sundarbans is a delta.The Sundarbans is a world famous largest mangrove forest and fascinating place which consist of two districts south and north 24 parganas of West Bengal in India. In 1977 the Sundarbans "World Heritage site"gained the status.

The name Sundarbans is given here because of its aboundence of Sundari trees. Sundarbans have many tourist and attractions sights which make people from out side the country come to visit.

The area of the Sundarbans is 10000 squar K.M  of land and water .More than half of West Bengal in India,rest of Bangladesh. In 1973, the main area was declared as "the Sundarbans Tiger Project".  After, Sundarbans was declared a "National Park" on 4th May in 1984.

There are 8 species of amphibians, 50 species of mammals, 320 species of birds, 400 species of fish, 60 species of reptiles and 7 species of crabs.

River-River:-The rivers of the Sundarban nourish the tidal waters. Its water is saline. The rivers have fallen into "the Bay of Bengal". The name of the rivers are Matla, Vidyadhari, Gosaba, Roy-mongal, Sapta-mukhi, Hoogly, Ichhamoti, Ganga, Jamuna, Buriganga and kalindi.

During the monsoon,the water is strong in the river. Therefore, the river is flooded. At this time, the Hilsa fish are seen in the river. The fish are very delicious to eat. At this time, the river dam break down and the rivers water enter into the village. Many village are damage for this. Roads along the river were repaired with the help of bricks so that the rivers boundary do not break into the tidal waters.
Crocodiles can be seen in the Sundarbans river. Various types of fish are also found here. Such as  vetkeys, Parsey, Tere, Omlet, Promfet, Vaon, Siden, Vola  and Cray-fish etc. Also different types of crabs are found in the river. 

Basically the river water is very calm from December to February. Therefore, this time is a good time to visit the Sundarbans. 

Soil:-Sundarbans soil is salinity. So,farming is not possible here. Another, root adaption is still root which come  out on tree stem and helps to stand the tree on the soil. Height of various trees of here are also decreasing because of salinity Different animal species come out from its muddy soil when water goes down at low tide.
