Sundarbans animal Otter called Udbiral here in West Bengal

Udbiral:-The otter is fish eating mammal of the Sundarbans. This animal is cat species animal. These animals are can seen 13 species. Basically they live in holes in the forest. They prefer to stay in groups. Otters are socialized creatures. They are also pron to sports. These inteligent creatures are quite friendly and easily domesticated. Otters body colour is dark brown. The lower part of the body is dirty and yellow. The lips and throat are white. Their tails are flat and 10 to 12 inches long. The weight of this animal can be from 70 to 90 kg. The length of otter is 83 to 110 centimeter. However, in the Sundarbans otters weight can from 3 to 5 kg. Their main food is fish. Because  there is nothing in the Sundarbans except fish. 


otters are can be of two types of Sundarbans. 1. Clawed otter and 2. Nailless otter. The otters in the local area are called "Udbiral". Otters are carnivorus animal in the sub family of lutrinae. Its scientific name is lutrinae. Lutra perspicillate is scientific name for the otters are grazing in canals of Sundarbans. 
Otters are usually liptapadi, means that the toes like of the ducks feet are attached by a thin membrane. Most nhave sharp clawed claws on their feet. Otters gestation period 60 to 70 days. They are expert of swimming. 
The otters are shout loudly when they are in a group. Most of the time  they look for prey with their baby. Although other animals of the genus otter are nocturnal., otters are always active. The body of an water has two layer of hair. The first layer is in small size soft and heat resistant. These hairs retain air and keep their bodies warm and dry under water. These hairs are waterproof. The second layer of these hair is long.

these are fish hungry animals. The limbs of the nailless otter are also very sensetive. As a result oyster, snails, shrimps and crabs hidden in the mud are not protected  from them. Their strong point their teeth and gums are very effective in catching slippery prey or chewing fish. 
The otters nostrils and ears are closed during swimming. They have long  mustache-like hairs on the top of their noses. This mustache is sensitive and helps otters to catch prey under water. Since their mustaches are steep,they do not get wet in water, so the presence of this sensetive mustache in muddy water indicates the presence of prey.
